9th week, Hillary Term

I attended the annual St. Ebbe's student conference this week in the beautiful hills of Herefordshire. Some highlights included:

Main sessions: Sam gave an excellent set of talks on the doctrine of the Trinity and a single talk on world mission, while Vaughan gave a clear and helpful overview of the first five books of the Bible.

Singing hymns with Joe M. and several students around the piano. Joe brought a stack of old IVP hymnals and impromtu four-part choirs often formed during free time.

Walking in the hills with a large group of students on a beautiful afternoon. We came upon a house that looked like Longbourne from the A&E Pride and Prejudice. Many photographs were taken.

Getting into a waterfight while washing up from lunch. Suffice it to say that somebody squeezed a sponge over my head, and I promptly returned the favour.

Joining a Scrabble tournament.

Enjoying many rich conversations -- over meals, in review group, or during free time -- strengthening old friendships and building new ones.

This was an intense week -- encouraging, yet massively challenging. We are called to have the same attitude as Christ, who did not use His status within the Trinity for His own advancement, but rather served in obedience to the Father.
